by admin on December 29, 2009

My mom ran into some guy at the party who thought there was a deaf sign but it’s not. To view more comments on my blog: www.seekgeo.com

Hehe, sounds like an attempt at a “joke” that was just lame. Well I guess the world will never run out of dorks, will it? There will always be enough to go around! :) )))

My ASL teacher in NY was Deaf. He used the “bird” as a sign but not in the same way as hearing use it, to mean “F— you.” He used it to mean, “Go away, don’t bother me.” Still, it was clearly not a polite sign! He seemed to be using it as a borrowed sign. What do you think of that?

He also told us in Japanese sign the fingers represent family members, so the middle finger means “brother.” I told him it was the same here in America. :)

I have to agree with you .. I had someone asked me that to once. They asked me if the middle finger was deaf sign, I told them no it is not. They didn’t believe me.

They think middle finger is deaf sign.. *sighs* Sorry folks but it is not deaf sign*

Dear Geo: People who do things like that are just sad examples of humanity. If this is this dumb ass’s idea of being “humorous”, can you imagine the types of people he has attracted in his life because of it? My mom always said to me (about people like that) “living well is the best revenge” You are a happy & giving joyous person, and that guy is (well) he is someone who feels the need to make up for his own difficiacies by making fun of others (what a sad life)
Sincerely Aquatania

Your hands moved too fast… where was the finger part of it?

It spelled weird, not werid twice in that stubtitle.

doggygal202 January 18, 2010 at 7:49 pm

people say that to me before too… weird

FharBall January 19, 2010 at 10:25 pm

ah, I agree with what everyone said, the guy was a jerk…what I really want to say is I really love the way you formatted the video. You sign clearly, use your mouth and face, and put subtitles! I’ve been taking sign language, but I am still learning. So from me and I’m sure other beginner signers, thanks, because doing your video in this way helped me learn some new signs!

I can’t stand dumbasses like that. Unfortunately, I don’t think ignorance will ever go away. This is a little off-topic but I don’t know that sign you use for “sign”.

bluescorpion72 January 23, 2010 at 12:31 am

oh, yeah it happened to me years ago. one student said proudly he know **** sign. i was like “what…. oh please. that’s not a deaf sign. go to learn and meet me again later”. he never meet me again lol

Lastateworker January 24, 2010 at 1:52 pm

SG, I agreed with your mom’s comment about that guy who is actually ignorance. ASL is more alike a full language with hands, body and spirit expressions. What an ignorance!

dangerics January 25, 2010 at 9:51 am

Yeah, it was a sign of his ignorance. When I tell people I’m learning ASL someone always says, “I have a sign for you.” I do what your mother did. Ignore them.
Peace.
